Last night I was asked to help decorate for a surprise 40th birthday party. Shelly’s husband Mike was so thoughtful and went above and beyond with extra touches, like custom floral, among other things to make the evening memorable. He had mentioned she loves red and purple, and I was in luck because I think those colors really complimented the bistro! If you haven’t been to Gregory’s Bistro in downtown McKinney you are missing out!!! It is such a warm and romantic space for dinner or for a private party. Here are a few pictures from the evening.

I really enjoyed designing for this event. Of course I love doing large weddings but sometimes an intimate gathering is fun too!!!

I know I can totally adapt to new trends in the wedding industry, but I do solemnly hope the whole rustic chic trend sticks around a while. I love mixing old with new, soft textures with rough textures, antlers with lace, broaches with burlap… you get the idea!! I created a few arrangements for one of my wedding planner friends and before I delivered them I thought I would set up a little photo shoot. I found the old wooden spindles in Round Top a couple years ago and I know they have a greater purpose than just laying on the table. I have a few ideas, just waiting on the right bride!!! Are you the one??

I have been lucky in my career in that I have found a great network of other wedding professionals in the area that share my philosophy that we can all learn from each other and get along! I believe every client should find a designer who gets them and compliments their style, and it may not be me. Where am I going with this…. last night I was so excited to attend flower school hosted by one of my personal favorite floral designers, Bows and Arrows in Dallas. I had a blast getting to know them and I did learn a few new tricks of the trade last night from Alicia. One being, I will not fear greenery! I have posted a picture of the arrangement I made last night. The class was focused on succulents, so you will see a few in my arrangement. I decided to keep the colors natural, even though I was surrounded by yellow and orange poppies and tulips. I second guessed my lack of color a few times! :)

It’s a little blurry, but you get the idea!

My husband and I had a conversation about poppy pods this morning. I LOVE them…he thinks they look like something that has gone bad or rotted. If you don’t know what they are or can’t tell from the picture then you are probably on my side!

Thanks for stopping by!

When my close friend Heather mentioned she wanted a lemonade themed birthday party for her daugther Tabitha’s 1st birthday I pretty much insisted she let me help decorate. It was pretty windy on Saturday so some of the little details wouldn’t stay put, but I still think it turned out pretty cute. Since retirement, my dad has helped me with many of my design projects. He built the lemonade stand and I think it turned out pretty great! I plan to use it for future events by changing out the sign to say different things. But back to Tabitha, she is seriously she sweetest little one year I have met. Just full of smiles and so fun to be around. Happy Birthday sweet girl!

For those that know about my childhoood and teenage years, I grew up riding and showing Quarter Horses. I miss it dearly, and will someday make it happen again! With that said, when a close friend asked if I could do a few arrangements for her friend Jessica’s bridal shower at a horse ranch in Pilot Point she didn’t have to twist my arm. Here are few pictures from the party…

As you can see, I had some fun stuff already in place to work with. Loved her mom’s iron horse and large wooden bowl.

I thought the horse needed to wear something fancy for the party.

I loved the bride Jessica’s wedding colors. Love me some coral, especially with succulents.

Jamie made the little mason jar party favors filled with jelly beans. Cute idea.

I will never get tired of mason jars on shephard hooks.

Thanks for letting me a part of your party, Jamie and Jessica!

It was a beautiful 74 degree day here in Texas, in FEBRUARY!! So, why not whip up some rustic elegant floral arrangements and do a little tablescape. I just love the mix of creamy yellows, pinks and whites. Especially when mixed with wood accents and my great-great grandmother’s antique linen. We may be dining outdoors tonight, minus the linen. For the arrangements I used a mix of white hydrangea, yellow stock, white lysimachia, white lisianthus, cream spray roses and dusty miller.

I kind of cringed as I typed DIY. The latest trend in the wedding industry is DIY which although is possible, can cause tremendous stress on a bride as well as those she has convinced to help her set up and do the dreaded “tear down” on her wedding day. The reason I am calling this post DIY is because I think DIY is possible for your reception if you stick with non floral centerpieces. I created this table on a whim today after surfing through Pinterest. Even though I put my own twist on what I saw, I do have to credit Centro Garden for the inspiration. With all credit given, I have to say this table was easy to set up and it took about 20 minutes to create. So, to my future brides and blog readers…. I WILL be supportive of your DIY reception ambitions as long as you leave floral “arranging” and ceremony florals (bouquets, bouts, etc) to me! :) Deal??
